We invite Kyiv residents and guests to the opening of the exhibition "Excerpts" which will take place as a part of the International Festival of Visual Culture "Vizii" on May 30 at 18:00 in Modern Art Research Institute.
About the exhibition:
Over the last couple of decades, the flow of the photographed stuff increased exponentially, but the substance of these images has not at the same time acquired more sense. Perhaps on the contrary, the abundance of pictures complicated search for the essence in them. The time between the shutter clicks and the image is printed has reduced to a few seconds. Archiving of images would have to be much more important, but in so huge and fast flow of images that seems impossible.
What happens to our relationship with photography? Images are being transferred over the Internet, the company chosen from a huge number of photo labs, then to collect, grade, and place them in a personal photo album. Old family portrait album tells us the whole story about the society of past years, and any portrait now can not even tell us what this picture represents.
Documentary is one of the foundations of photography, and with the passing of time it gives a snapshot the authenticity. Does that mean it is inevitable that our pictures tomorrow will talk about our everyday life today? Doing excerpts from this stream of photos in search of their essence, a group of photographers from Photographic Education High School in Stockholm introduces their exhibition to the public attention of Ukrainian capital.
Among the participants are: Eric Asp, Andreas Bertman, Johan Bryggman, Mikaela Crantz, Viktoria Garvare, Fredrik Holmér, Anna Janerås, Fredrik Karumo, Thea Marlene Magnussen, Fredrik Nätterö, Jimmie Sonelius, Mikael Strandh, Gustav Udd, Alexandra Ydevall (Sweden).
